The Beginning

I'm 36 and newly married living in a good home with a solid job, terrific, supportive friends and family, awesome husband, adorable pit bull, and two cats who've decided to join us on this ride.  We have a good life.  No, we have a terrific life... full of things that most around us can't afford or find the time to do.  I am lucky.  But I'm grumpy... I'm agitated and sometimes full on angry, occassionally frustrated and a lot of time just not satisfied.  This is not a call for sympathy.  But, in the words of my husband, I suffer from white people problems... and I'm going to start my journey to fix those.  I'm not one for follow through or motivation so it seems easiest that I work toward all of this in small bites... bit by bit... and maybe I can create something big enough to actually make an impact - either in my own small world, or hopefully in the greater world around me.

My big personal focuses are on 1) the way we are destroying the beautiful world around us, with development and growth and more growth and bigger and better.  Building shopping centers and housing developments where nature can't really sustain it, choosing foods out of season and far outside of our regional availability just because we can at a major toll to the planet. Sitting in traffic to get 3 miles because we've developed beyond what the infrastructure can handle.  I've been seriously influenced by a few things on this - "Animal Vegetable Miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver, my husband (King)'s amazing vegetable garden, and our devotion to the mountains and farms of the Northern and Central Virginia areas that we love to visit on our free weekends.  2) The amazing dogs that the Pitties are, and the horrible tragedy that is Breed Specific Legislation and abuse of these loving animals on a contual basis;  3)  a firm belief that I want to always leave everyone I encounter with a happier (or equally happy) mood than when I encountered them.

So, here I go.  I'm typically not a heavy person.  "I like my video view light and perky!" so I promise future posts won't always be so intense.  But hopefully you will join me in figuring this out, and maybe offering some suggestions when you have them.
